About 192.168.2.1

192.168.2.1 is the default IP addresses used by various router manufacturers such as Belkin and SMC for certain models of broadband routers. It is categorized as “private” since it falls within the IP address range of 192.168.0.0 through 192.168.255.255. It means that in a network only one can exist, and it can’t be accessed from outside the network.

The purpose and usability of this IP address is not different than of other private IP addresses. Since private IP addresses can be used over and over again (as long as they are on different networks) 192.168.2.1 is a common IP address that many home networks use to establish a default gateway.

This is quite helpful when you don’t know the IP of your router, so running the ipconfig command in the Command prompt will reveal it.

If you are not familiar with this, you can login the router's console by pointing a Web browser to http://192.168.2.1.
